When I'm not performing my duties as a mother, wife, trainer, taxi-driver, tutor, or chef, I read. I have a foul mouth (which I try to filter--but most of the time, fail), and I love to write.

The Dominant (The Submissive Trilogy, #2) - Tara Sue Me Maybe it's just me but books from the guys POV always is better...review to come. :-)

“I wanted to pour over her application until I had it memorized. I wanted to make a list of what she had marked as ‘willing to try’ and show her the pleasures of doing those things. I wanted to study her body until its contours were permanently etched in my mind. Until my hands knew and recognized her every response. I wanted to watch her give in to her true submissive nature. I wanted to be her Dom.”

Trusting You photo IMG_0987.jpg

If you have read The Submissive, you already know how this story goes…but reading it from Nathanial West’s point of view (in my very honest opinion) is SO MUCH HOTTER!

While yes, he seems a little hot and cold with how his feelings develop; it doesn’t take away from his passions or how much he truly wants things to work with Abby. Not just as her Dom either, oh no. Nathanial wants so much more from her…

…and because I am a total bookworm, I will share this small tidbit from one of their encounters at the Library:

“Just for my education,” I said, focusing my attention on the curve of her backside, the way it moved as she walked, “does the Rare Books Collection room happen to have a table?” “Yes.” Of course it did. “Is it sturdy?” I asked. “I suppose so.” “Good. Because I plan to have more than books spread out for me.”

LOVE HIM! LOVE THIS BOOK! LOVE THE SERIES! Very much looking forward to Abby & Nathanial’s story continuing in The Training!

Kitchen Scandals (Riverside Trilogy #2) - Brooke Cumberland Yep...that just happened. WTF?!? So good...review to come!

**ARC provided by the author in exchange for my honest review.**

“No matter how mad I was at him, or how betrayed I felt, I still loved him. He had changed my whole world this past year. He made me feel alive again. Whole. Complete. He made me feel love again when I thought it’d be gone forever.”

It’s amazing how much life can change in a year. Molly has finished school, gotten her dream job (and no, not because she’s sleeping with the boss) working at Riverside and has managed to fly under the radar in her love affair with Drake. Things with them are as hot as ever and after getting through the challenges in their first year, Drake is ready to take the next step…one step closer to having Molly and Stella in his life forever.

What Molly doesn’t know though, just might ruin them. Drake has a secret; a little bombshell of his own that he has kept hidden for way too long…

If that isn’t bad enough, new threats keep popping up in Molly and Drake’s life together. Someone is after Molly and when clues point to her past; Drake uses his every resource to keep her safe…but sometimes money isn’t enough.

“I hate the fact that your past is colliding with our future. You don’t deserve this, Molly. You are too good to deserve any of this.”

Mmmmmmmmmm…..that’s all I can say about this book. It was lick the spoon and then the bowl good! Kitchen Scandals lives up to its name, and it was amazing. I don’t even think I tasted it because I was so hungry for what happens next and it was over way too soon! (Just like the best meals are). I don’t want to give too much away because I want everyone to savor this, and all the twisted details. I read the entire thing in one sitting and cannot wait for the last book…get your booty back in the kitchen, Brooke! I can’t wait for dessert!

Kitchen Affairs (Riverside Trilogy, #1) - Brooke Cumberland “Love anchors the soul…””As long as you are mine, we will never sink…”
Hebrews 6:19 photo fwphebrews619.jpg

Molly Woods is going to succeed. A young, single mother; with big dreams of being a chef finally in her grasp. Living in Chicago with her best friend, Michael, Molly begins an internship at Riverside; one of the most popular restaurants in town. Still wearing her engagement ring makes it easier to focus on her career by keeping men away…until Drake Stagliano walks into the kitchen.

“Are you married?” “No.” “Why do you still wear it?”…”I haven’t taken it off since…the day it was put on.”

Quite an interesting line of questioning coming from a man she’s never met, especially since he is essentially her boss. Drake Stagliano is the hotel and restaurant manager; he oversees the Riverside—go figure, he’s tall, dark, and incredibly handsome. Molly hopes for her nerves sake that Drake doesn’t like to hang out in the kitchen.

Oh, he didn’t before…but he will now that he knows Molly is there. Drake wants her, has since the very first day he saw her, but Molly continues to shoot him down.

Time to get creative…

“You left this in the cab last night. Figured you would need it. However, if you want the remainder of the contents you must meet me for dinner first. Pick you up at 8pm tomorrow night. –D.S.”

What starts out as a means to an end quickly takes a turn for the hot and steamy. The chemistry between Drake and Molly is undeniable, but Molly doesn’t want their relationship to influence what she does in the kitchen. Keeping things private between them until she finishes the internship seems easy enough until someone threatens to expose them…and their little kitchen affair.

Talk about wetting my appetite! Very fast and fun read, I definitely savored this book all the while devouring every last page. Brooke Cumberland has this way of tickling your taste buds for a hot and cold romance; perfect way to keep the pot simmering…if you know what I mean! I look forward to the next juicy morsel in Kitchen Scandals!

Trust (Believe Series, #1) - L. Chapman *Advance Copy provided by the author in exchange for my honest review*

DNF @ 45%:

Oh boy...this is the hardest review I've ever had to write. I literally have a stomach ache over it, but this book was just no bueno. I was driving the people around me insane as I continued to make comments and complain about the content...even my status updates are whiny. (For the record, I'm not a complainer at all) I just could not get into this book.

I am so sorry to the author, and I really wanted to like it. It just wasn't even close to believable for a contemporary piece. It was too fast forward and I just could not wrap my head around the "fairytale" of an HEA like this.

Maybe I'm off base and I look forward to reading reviews from others as it's released but this book was just not one I could sit through, I'm sorry.

**Update**

Today, I finished Trust. Determined to not be a quitter (and I felt horrible that I did not give it at least a 50% chance), I have a little more to add.

First, it deserves another star; so I adjusted. It did get a little better, and I can see how the author wanted to the story to play out. I loved Annabelle in this story (but again, it felt like the timeline was off...they were too cozy too fast) and Megan & Mark became a little more believable...but when Rich comes in the picture, it just confused things and really hasn't gone anywhere. Maybe that is saved for a later story...

Second, L. Chapman, I just want to say; you are a very gracious and nice person. No doubt you have a heart of gold (your bio is a true test of your character--I love that you were a DJ). ;-). I do hope to read more from you and I commend on your courage for putting yourself out there, laid bare, for the world to see.

Third, please make sure you give Trust a try. Just because it didn't work for me doesn't mean someone else won't love it. I look forward to hearing others thoughts!

Choices - Sydney Lane That was the hardest ending I've ever read. The dedication at the end...*sigh* No words...

Review to come.
A Brutal Tenderness (A Terrible Love, #2) - Marata Eros **ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.**

“I try to shake off the shattered remnants of my haunting guilt. But it grips me, carrying me off on the current of memory like a captured leaf, forever churning as the water of my emotions takes me back to the night that Faith called me. And I didn’t answer.”

Blaine “Cas” Steel has been watching Jewell MacLeod aka Jess Mackey for two years, silently blaming her for the death of his cousin, Faith. Determined to avenge his sole family member, Cas, along with his team of Federal Agents go deep undercover to help flush out the sick individual who has been murdering women who all match Jewell’s description, practicing for when he can finally get to her. Cas could have never prepared himself for the reaction he would have to Jess; starting a chain reaction two years in the making…

photo image-115.jpg

Cas wants to hate her, keep his distance, do his job; but as soon as Jewell starts to dance, he’s done.

“It instantly slams into me why Faith loved her, it strikes me between the eyes like a physical blow: Jewell is fragile, vulnerable. She’s a woman on the chasm of breaking apart. Faith had felt the same thing I’m feeling now: a fierce sense of protection.”

photo image-113.jpg

Keeping his cool and playing the role of “bad boy” Devin Castile gets more and more difficult when he starts to realize Jewell is not who or what he originally thought. Cas has a killer to catch, many lives to save; it shouldn’t matter if one must be lost in order to save many more…but Jewell is proving to be a very dangerous distraction. His feelings can’t get involved with this situation and though he fights it, Jewell gets under his skin and into his heart.

“The girl who will get me the truths I need is the fix to my broken, the key to a lock I didn’t know existed.”

photo image-114.jpg

Reading this book did things to me. There is something to be said about “two sides to a story.” I absolutely fell in love with Cas all over again. Being able to see the events unfold from his perspective; to watch HIM change, because of her. To experience this amazing story through his eyes…PRICELESS! Marata Eros has an amazing gift and the re-telling of Jewell & Blaine’s story is just a glimpse of the awesomeness that is she. Everything I felt the first time while reading A Terrible Love was magnified ten-fold while reading A Brutal Tenderness; I don’t even think I can adequately explain…and I don’t want to. READ.THIS.BOOK. (After you read ATL first, of course).

There is so much more to Cas’ POV than I could have ever expected; and the bonus at the end makes the sweet torture of reliving all the “crazy” (including the rare glances into the mind of a true psychopath) so worth it! Brava Ms. Eros, you’ve done it again.

“She owns me and I can’t breathe for knowing it.”

Finding Colin Firth - Mia March **ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest reveiw.**

“I have a birth mother. Her name is Veronica Russo. She lives in a place called Boothbay Harbor, Maine.”

One year has passed since Bea Crane lost her mom. A letter arrives written by her mom; a confession that rocks Bea’s entire world. No longer knowing who she is or what to think, Bea sets out on a journey to find answers to questions she never believed she would have…

“People will come and go from your life for all kinds of acceptable and crappy reasons…So you’ve got to be your own best friend, know who you are, and never let anyone tell you you’re something you know you’re not.”

Veronica Russo has finally come back to Boothbay Harbor after twenty-two years in hopes of facing her past and starting fresh. Working at the local diner and being a legend for her famous “elixir” pies, Veronica seems to be heading in the right direction. Though she never married, her heart being closed off at a young age; one day she hoped she would find the one man who would be her everything, her Colin Firth. She never had children…except the six pound baby girl she gave up when she was sixteen, but the hope hasn’t completely died there either. She keeps her information current so that if her daughter were to ever come looking, Veronica could be found.

“What a beautiful story of coming full circle it would be.”

Gemma Hendricks loves the city. Living in New York has always been a dream of hers and her husband, Alex. Now, his dreams have changed and Gemma can’t take the constant tension in their upscale NYC apartment. Getting shocking news, losing her job and hearing her husband talk about moving to the suburbs leaves Gemma feeling lost. Deciding she needs time, she leaves; escaping to her childhood vacation spot where she can just breathe. Meeting up with old friends also helps, and with a celebrity in town, maybe an interview would help get her life and career back on track…little did she know that her heartstrings would pull her into a story that could very well hit too close to home.

Can Gemma work her literary magic in order to bring mother and daughter together? Can she face her own new reality too? Can Bea make a future with her unknown past? Can Veronica really face what she’s been running from all this time…and what is in those pies?

What a breath of fresh air! I loved this book! Reading any story from multiple points of view always intrigues me and keeps me glued to the pages. Finding Colin Firth was no exception. I loved how each woman had her own separate story and backstory (which were wonderfully described and placed) and yet how they all intertwined. I laughed and I cried. The bonds that were forged and lessons learned truly touched my heart. Beautifully written and I absolutely look forward to reading more from Mia March.

Shady Cove: New Girl in Town - Ava Catori *title given by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.*

"A country boy will come up on you all sweet like honey, smooth and charming, and before you know it, he's a cobra wrapped between your thighs."

Jenna Birch has been shipped off to Shady Cove, North Carolina. After her brother's death, her parents just couldn't deal so she was uprooted from everything she knew in California and sent to spend the summer with her aunt on the other side of the country. Not knowing what to expect in a sleepy little town, Jenna's attitude was less than stellar.

Upon arrival, she meets her cousin, Grace (who is also not thrilled about her visit) whom she is to share a room with. Because Grace is forced to hang with Jenna (even if Jenna is content to stay holed-up inside all summer), she decides to take her to party...

Meeting people is not something Jenna really likes to do. Naturally shy and silently judging everyone around her for being simple little hicks, Jenna is introduced to just about everyone...but not by Grace. Local boy, Benji Preston, has set his sights on Jenna. Even though Grace is head-over-heels and Jenna is definitely not interested in anything romantic, Benji is a nice guy. Soon, Jenna realizes she looks forward to spending time with him more and more.

"This sleepy little town had captured her attention, or at least a particular boy who lived in the sleepy little town had. Benji Preston had Jenna questioning her future plans, and going back to California."

Everyone has baggage, I get it. I even understand the message that was being conveyed. What I didn't get about this book is how it was written in both first and third person...or at least read that way for me. It felt very choppy and the dialog was very confusing at times. The story-line was good, and even a little sad, but the execution was lacking. I didn't hate it and I did finish it (because lets face it, I still wanted to know how it ended), but I was disappointed. I felt like it was a little juvenile in text and format, with the way things were worded (and repeated...often). I would not recommend this title, but I do want to see if anything more comes from this author. She has potential to be very good, maybe even great, but this is not one of those books.

Claiming Lauren (eXclave, #1) - Emily Ryan-Davis ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

"Open meant acceptance. Open meant agreement. Open meant...Submission."

Lauren Brant is the perfect society wife. Married to a man in name only, serving as his companion on business functions but living in separate houses in different cities on different continents. Loneliness is par for the course...

Joining an online club, Lauren learns the art of submission and makes plans to finally meet her Master. All she has to do to make that a reality is call her husband.

"I didn't call to tell you about my travel arrangements. I called to tell you I'll be in Michigan. Meeting a man. Submitting--he's a sexual Dominant. I'm meeting him because I'm going to submit to him."

Bracing for the brunt his reaction left her confused when he didn't react at all. Her conscience guilty over being openly unfaithful even if there is nothing more to her marriage that a binding contract.

Steeling her resolve, Lauren goes to her Master. Meeting him in a shady hotel and submitting to his will. He takes her to new heights in her desires and all without ever revealing his identity...exactly the way she had requested. But now, Lauren isn't so sure that's what she wants. what if she wants more? Master gives her everything she seeks and that scares her.

"Tell me to stop and i will. I don't want to scare you. I want to push your limits, to claim your edges as my domain. I've wanted to give you this freedom since the first time you told me you felt trapped."

Lauren felt trapped no longer....Master had freed her. He made her feel beautiful, desired and sexy. Now, she just had to remember that once she returned home.

Home...Jacob was waiting for her when she returned. Wanting nothing more than to brush his invitation to join him for the evening, Lauren's guilt kept her mouth shut. Jacob was taking her out to dinner and she would play her part in their marriage roles.

Only dinner was not what she had expected. Instead, she was introduced to an entirely new side to Jacob. A side of him she wasn't sure she wanted to see...

"You have options. You have me. Be mine. Belong to me."

Holy wow! For a novella, I am absolutely floored! This story read like a novel, a very steamy novel and I loved every second of it. I will definitely be picking up more from Emily Ryan-Davis. This was hot and yet romantic all at the same time. *sigh*

One Tiny Secret - Adam Kunz Hmmmm...not what I was expecting, but I liked it! Review coming soon...

Review:

“So the lie is all set. I told my dad that after work today, I’m having a little late-night study session with Rory and Alex for a big test on Monday. I guess it’s not a total fib. We are going to be hanging out tonight, except it will be at a party, and we will most definitely not be studying.”

Danielle “Dani” Marks is a typical teenager. She tells little white lies to her dad in order to get away with doing things he would never let her do (she is the daughter of the sheriff after all). Problem is, one lie turns Dani’s life upside down when her childhood friend and neighbor goes missing.

Getting caught is the least of Dani’s worries now that her father has lost his trust in her and she starts receiving haunting and threatening texts from Unknown. Someone is out to get her and Dani has no one to turn to. Afraid of bringing her two BFF’s into her nightmare, Dani turns to the one person she swore she’d never speak to again…Parker Reed.

Parker is back in town after running off to California in hopes of getting Dani off his mind and out of his heart; he was wrong. Now he’s back and want another chance. Dani doesn’t want to go there but Parker was her first…everything; and her body betrays her every time he gets close.

“I can’t, Parker. Not with everything else that’s going on,” I say, sliding my hand from under his and grabbing for the beer bottle. “I’m not asking you to,” he replies. “I just want you to know that you’re not alone in this.”

The situation escalates as more people are put in danger or worse, killed. Dani tries to keep herself together, all the while trying to convince her dad that someone is after her (and everyone else in town). How many more people have to get hurt or die before he believes her? And what about Parker?

Dani has some tough decisions to make; she better choose wisely or more people will die…maybe even her.

This book was not what I expected…and I really liked it! It took me back to my teen years when I read primarily horror and made me realize how much I enjoy this genre. Now, don’t misunderstand; there is a definite love story here but in the middle of that are layers of suspense and that’s what kept me turning pages. Great read and I look forward to more!

Hope Breaks - Alice Bello Well, that was NOT the ending I was hoping for...where is the rest of it?!?

Review:

“You actually don’t remember a hunk like that? Were you on drugs or religion as a child?”

Olivia Lovelace, famous author, hates her current book cover. Hope has to find something hot, steamy and best-seller worthy or she can kiss her little photography job goodbye. Facing the truth that she has nothing to go on is difficult; and her model liaison has no one for her to use on such short notice. Knowing this would normally cause Hope to freak out but surely there’s someone out there (who is young, sexy and willing to make a cool $200 just for taking a few pictures) she can find on her own. Never would she have thought all her dreams could come true at the local Wal-Mart!

After approaching a young hottie inside (and freaking him out a little), her car breaks down in the parking lot. Just her luck that the tow-truck driver is sexy too—who needs a talent agent anyway? Hope is doing just fine on her own? While drumming up models is great for her career, it doesn’t fix her car. Thankfully, there’s a shop and according to the tow driver; if Jake Troy is working, her car will be too.

Jake Troy has known Hope since High School. She doesn’t remember him but he remembers her…

“Lord have mercy, he was just gorgeous. But not like all the hot young men I’d just seemed to run into today. No, Jake was broad and solid and hard as a crowbar.”

Okay, so he’s hot, and her age (if not a little older) and he’s interested…maybe. Problem is her body says “hell yeah” while her mind is saying “um, no”. Thankfully he doesn’t push her. Hope says no and Jake backs off, even if there is nothing more he would like to do than her.

Taking things one step at a time sounds great in theory but Hope still has a deadline to meet for a very demanding author. Taking her first potential (and his cute little girlfriend) isn’t going as well as planned…until they sneak off to fool around and she catches it on film—score! Thinking she’s finally gotten her money shot makes it easier to focus on Jake. He always says the right things and pushes all of her hot buttons. (They are quite steamy).

“His face had the expression of a man with a single-minded ambition. Lucky me; that goal was to give me pleasure. Go single-minded men!”

Being with this man was unlike anything Hope had ever experienced before…cloud nine is an understatement. Nothing could ruin Hope’s state of bliss until she gets that phone call from her boss; Olivia STILL hates the photos! Craptastic news that sends Hope back to her camera in search for ANYTHING to give Olivia for review. When the pictures load onto her computer she sees an unexpected and absolutely breathtaking photo…one she can’t take credit for taking. Now, the real question is: does she sell out and hand it over or does she figure out something else?

“The Nikon had captured every stunning detail…”

What a way to end; my heart is broken. I hope this is just the beginning of Hope and Jake’s story. Hope is funny and beautiful. Jake is rugged and real. I loved them and think they are exactly what the other needs. I really enjoyed getting to know them and can only hope there is more…keep it coming Ms. Bello, I cannot wait for what happens next!

**4 Click-Click Stars**
Being Me (Inside Out Trilogy, #2) - Lisa Renee Jones I am so impatient....this was awesome and now I have to wait to see what happens. Review coming soon...

“I do not know how it’s possible, but each time I see him it is as if it’s the first time, as if he slides inside me and fills what is empty.”

Being Me picks up right where If I Were You leaves off (thank God); Sara manages to escape the darkness of the storage house and flee to the safety of her car. Scared and alone after dark, she calls the only person she can think of. Problem is, she left him and being close to him again is not what she needs right now…or exactly what she does. Chris comes to her rescue (you’ll find he does this a lot) and uses all of his charm in order to convince Sara they belong together; at least as much as either of them are willing to give.

“I want you to trust me not to run…” “And what if you can’t handle it?” “We both need to know if I can. I don’t want us to unravel and have to wonder if it’s because I didn’t try.” “You can’t.” “Okay then I guess that’s that…” “What does that mean?” “It means you already know I’m not what you need. I know I’m not what you need. Let’s not drag this out any longer than we have to. I’m going to pack…”

Chris is incredibly protective and cannot bear to lose control. Sara has pushed his every boundary and with the slew of unanswered questions she has, Chris just knows she’s putting herself in danger. Sara is stubborn in her own right, feelings of unease when she’s around certain people; wondering how they fit into the puzzle of Rebecca’s disappearance, but pushing anyway, looking for answers.

“My entire life has been about what someone else got for me. I don’t want to repeat that scenario. I won’t.” “You’re afraid to count on me.” “I’m afraid of not being able to count on me.”

Here is where things get dicey…during the course of time, Sara starts to piece things together from Rebecca’s journals. She learns the identities of her Master(s) and why Rebecca had a grudge against her, from multiple people. Unfortunately, they have now moved onto Sara. Because she has virtually stepped into Rebecca’s life and is finding out that people are not who they seem.

I love how this story is intricately woven together from different vantage points. Everyone has a significant role to play and how it all comes together is nothing short of brilliant! I was on the edge of my seat, turning pages almost faster than I could read them just to see what happened next! Brava Ms. Jones, this is truly an amazing book (and Series). I still have so many questions; even with so many being answered…I cannot wait until the final Journal & the next book!
**5 Back-Lashing Stars**
Rebecca’s Lost Journals, Volume 4: My Master (INSIDE OUT TRILOGY) - Lisa Renee Jones "He is an addiction, and addictions are never good for you. He's taking me deeper into his world, deeper in his dark desires, but I'm never able to get behind the physical aspect of our relationship. I just lose more of who I am."

Rebecca started this journey is hopes of finding herself and in the end, she might have lost. I absolutely loved this insight into Rebecca and her Master. I cannot wait to find out who "he" actually is and what happened to her. All I know now for sure is, she is in a darker place than she ever imagined...I want to know if she can truly handle the depths HE is taking her?

photo image-56.jpg
Rebecca's Lost Journals, Volume 3: His Submissive - Lisa Renee Jones "I will never leave you with anything but pleasure," he murmured. "Remember that."

Oh, yes. Pleasure away Master...

These journals keep getting better and better! As the relationship develops between Rebecca and HIM, Rebecca has reservations about what is being offered to her; yet wants nothing more than to belong to her "Master".

"It's insanity. I'm a contract, a responsibility. A possession to him. He should be nothing but pleasure and the escape he has promised me he will be. And that is all he has promised."

What kind of sh!t is that? photo tumblr_m72k49v4hp1qjzgy6.gif

Rebecca needs to have faith that what she's being told is true...and she wants it. But can she truly handle the dark world HE is about to bring her into?

"I was in too deep with him now not to take a leap with him. But I prayed then--and I pray now--that he deserves it. I drew in a breath and breathed out the words that gave him all that power over me. "I belong to you."
Rebecca's Lost Journals, Volume 2: The Contract - Lisa Renee Jones "Maybe I am destined to have my heart ripped to pieces by this man--because I know as I write this that I can't walk away from him."

If it hurts, it's love photo tumblr_lstkxgeJyH1qbj6tto1_250.gif

The second journal doesn't disappoint and makes me all the more excited to get to Being Me! What a journey Rebecca has embarked on...one where the pain and pleasure mix together in one hot & steamy climax! I cannot wait to see what happens next!
Rebecca's Lost Journals, Volume 1: The Seduction - Lisa Renee Jones "He only has control because you give it to him. Don't ever forget that."

What a great insight to how the story of If I Were You begins. I am intrigued and will be finishing all of the journals...TONIGHT! I just have to have the background before diving into the next Inside Out book.

I love how it's written in journal form and it really does feel like she spills her thoughts on the pages...even the little mundane things are interesting.

Rebecca is intrigued by this man and despite her lack of knowledge of the unknown, she wants...just wants. And this man can give her something she longs for but hasn't realized yet; to give up control.
